After extensive consultation with leading figures in the international hospitality and tourism industry and with our strategic partner The University of Queensland, the Australian International Hotel School is proud to announce its new programs:
- Bachelor of Business (International Hotel Management)
- Bachelor of Business (International Event Management)
These programs have been developed for delivery in 2009.
Both bachelor degrees are quality endorsed by The School of Tourism at The University of Queensland, ranked as a top-50 world class university and a member of the Group of Eight leading Australian research universities.

Business-focused, industry-relevant, many choices
Both these comprehensive, industry-relevant degrees offer a full three year academic program:
- university-level study in business, finance, marketing, organisation and operations;
- professional development - research skills and practices, management and leadership, business ethics, cross-cultural issues, career planning;
- daily skills training in the commercial four-star boutique Hotel Kurrajong on-site;
- a career development program of paid industry placements in Australia and abroad;
- pathways to further study and double degrees with the Blue Mountains Hotel School in Leura, NSW and The University of Queensland.
Fast-track, intensive delivery in two and a half years
In response to both students’ and industry’s demand for a fast-track pathway to career start-up, these programs will be typically delivered in two and half years as follows:
- Six on-campus terms x 12 weeks of study and exams which include:
- a theoretical component delivered in several learning styles: lectures, tutorials, seminars, workshops, group work, online and academic field trips.
- a practical component delivered through skills-training and practice as staff under professional supervision in the commercial four star boutique Hotel Kurrajong on-site; and
- career-planning and workplace readiness training and an industry guest lecture and recruitment program.
- Two x 20-week blocks of paid industry Career Development placement with employers in Australia and abroad including:
- assistance and advice from Career Development for job interviews
- visits by Career Development staff to check on progress and provide advice
- liaison with workplace supervisors
- networking with workplace mentors and to impress future employers.

- With a greater focus on business (including studies in management accounting and revenue management, economics, business law, strategic planning and leadership) this degree program gives graduates the competitive edge for accelerated management careers in hospitality and tourism;
- Delivered by highly qualified and industry experienced staff, the course delivers both academic rigour and industry-connected content that gives a graduate a realistic view of the how the hospitality and tourism industry works and the skills, knowledge and attitude to meet and exceed industry’s expectations;
- Sharing core business subjects with its sister school, the Blue Mountains Hotel School (BMHS) in Leura, NSW, the AIHS program offers opportunities to gain a double degree qualification with only two more terms of study;
- There are more choices and greater flexibility in study pathways than ever before with our partners, the Blue Mountains Hotel School (BMHS) in Leura, NSW,and The University of Queensland (UQ);
- There are further study pathways available to study at Master degree level at AIHS as well as the opportunity to gain a double Masters degree at UQ.

What qualifications do I get?
If you complete the whole program, you receive:
- a Bachelor of Business (International Hotel Management) or a Bachelor Business (International Event Management) both quality endorsed by The University of Queensland; and
- an Award Diplome Suisse from a leading Swiss hotel school.
If you decide to exit the Bachelor of Business (International Hotel Management) program before completion, then you receive:
- a Diploma of Business (International Hotel Management) on successful completion of year one of the program; OR
- an Associate Degree of Business (International Hotel Management) on successful completion of year two of the program.
If you decide to exit the Bachelor Business (International Event Management) program before completion, then you receive:
- a Diploma of Business (International Event Management) on successful completion of year one of the program; OR
- an Associate Degree of Business (International Event Management) on successful completion of year two of the program.

Your choice: change courses
The program allows direct credit transfer between the Australian International Hotel School’s programs and the program offered at the Blue Mountains Hotel School:
- Bachelor of Business (International Hotel & Resort Management)

This means that if you change your mind in either year one or two of study at the Australian International Hotel School, you can change courses and go and study in Leura, NSW.
Your choice: get a double degree
When you have gained your Bachelor of Business (International Event Management) or your Bachelor of Business (International Hotel Management) at the Australian International Hotel School, you can also gain a second degree at BMHS:
- Bachelor of Business (International Hotel & Resort Management)
How? Take an extra 8 units of study (over two terms x 12 weeks) and you will gain a second degree. In other words, you can gain two Bachelor degrees in three years of study.
Your choice: get a University of Queensland degree
After two years of study at the Australian International Hotel School, you may decide to study towards a Bachelor of International Hotel & Tourism Management at The University of Queensland.
How? If you have successfully completed two years of study for the Associate Degree of Business (International Hotel Management) or an Associate Degree (International Event Management) at AIHS, you can take a further 10 courses of study (one UQ course is the equivalent of one unit of study at AIHS) at The University of Queensland St Lucia campus for a Bachelor of International Hotel & Tourism Management. You will have already completed two UQ courses of study embedded in the Associate Degree of Business program at AIHS.
The further 10 UQ courses of study can be undertaken in two terms x 5 courses OR two terms x 4 courses + one summer school term x 2 courses. For more information about the School of Tourism, UQ and its courses, please visit www.tourism.uq.edu.au
Your choice: postgraduate study and Masters program
When you have gained your Bachelor of Business (International Event Management) or your Bachelor of Business (International Hotel Management) at the Australian International Hotel School, you can also go on to study the postgraduate program at AIHS:
- Master of Hotel Management
New pattern of delivery for Masters program in 2009
The Master of Hotel Management is now being be delivered in an 18-month time frame including a 20-week block of paid industry training.
The typical pattern of delivery of the program will be:
- Four on-campus terms x 12 weeks of study; and
- One x 20-week block of paid industry placement
