Canberra - the nation's capital

As Australia’s national capital and a university town, Canberra is a thriving, fun, cosmopolitan city and an ideal place to work and study. With a population of over 345,000, it is the eighth largest city in Australia and unique amongst Australian cities for being the only entirely planned city. Its planning was heavily influenced by the garden city movement, which helped to create vast areas of natural bush vegetation.

As the seat of the government of Australia, Canberra is home to numerous places of cultural and political significance, including Parliament House, the High Court of Australia, the National Gallery of Australia and the Australian War Memorial.

Residents enjoy the many great live music venues, theatres, restaurants, cafes, bars, shops and sporting facilities. Canberra has sports teams that compete nationally and internationally, with the best known of these being the Canberra Raiders and the Brumbies, who play rugby league and rugby union respectively, with their home games being played at Canberra Stadium.

The city is also a great base from which to explore the many delights of the surrounding region, including historic townships, stunning coastlines, natural wonders and the famous Snowy Mountains.
