Canberra Lifestyle

Canberra is the capital of Australia and home of the federal government. Canberra is a University town with more than six tertiary institutions, and over 35,000 students from Canberra, around Australia and the world. Students are attracted to the availability of ‘major city’ facilities combined with the ambience of an intimate regional setting.

Canberra, located in the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) is situated in the South East Corner of the state of NSW. The capital is independently governed and covers 4,067 square kilometres. Located 150km inland and 571 metres above the Pacific Ocean, at approximately latitude 35 degrees south, longitude 149 degrees east, Canberra is Australia’s largest inland city.

Approximately 313,000 people live in Canberra. While many are employed by government departments, more and more are involved in private sector occupations. Canberra offers residents a wide range of recreational, sporting and social activities, creating a vibrant and cosmopolitan feel.

Canberra’s unique location also means that you can take a weekend trip to the beach, ski fields, Sydney, Melbourne or Adelaide, or a week-long trip to explore the Great Barrier Reef or the outback. Canberra is linked to state capital cities and major regional areas by regular air, rail and coach services.
